Before you ask
What people usually want to know before they book with us
Still curious? Reach out — we are happy to walk through the details.
How far ahead should we book a ferry crossing or equipment hire?
For ferry crossings we would rather have a week's notice, and longer in July and August. Equipment hire is often possible at a day or two's notice, though the popular sizes go first at weekends, so it is worth asking early.
Can we hire equipment if we are not booking a crossing with you?
Yes. The ferry and the hire side run separately, so you can take equipment for the day or the week whether or not you travel with us. Tell us where you are staying and we will suggest the simplest pickup.
What happens if the weather turns and we cannot cross?
Crossings are decided by the skipper on the day, and if we judge it unsafe we will not sail. In that case we rearrange the crossing to another date that suits you, or refund it, and we will talk it through with you first.
Is there a minimum age or any experience needed for the hire equipment?
Most of the equipment is straightforward and needs no prior experience, though a few items suit older children and adults. Tell us who is coming and what they have done before, and we will point you to what fits.
Can you take groups, clubs or corporate bookings?
Yes, we take group bookings for crossings and hire, and larger parties are easier to arrange when we know numbers and dates well ahead. Give us the outline in your enquiry and we will work out what is feasible.
How do we pay, and what deposit do you ask for?
We take a deposit to hold a booking and settle the balance before you travel or collect. Card and bank transfer both work, and we will set out the amounts clearly in our reply so there are no surprises later.
